Capital4Health: Capabilities for active lifestyle: An interactive knowledge-to-action research network for health promotion (2015-2021).
Sponsor: BMBF
Since early 2015, our group has been participating in Southern Germany's joint project Capital4Health, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The aim of the research network is to create favourable conditions for an active lifestyle in various settings (pre-school, school, work, and in the community) by improving individual skills and organizational structures. After a successful initial project phase, the research network is now being funded by the BMBF for an additional three years (2018 - 2021). The research association is under the management of Prof. Pfeifer (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg).

Increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour among students on campus
The project “Students BeWegt 2.0“ is a continuation of the project “Smart Moving“ and focuses on physical activity and sedentary behaviour among students at the university. It also investigates the students’ wellbeing and ability to concentrate combined with movement-enhancing interventions on campus. Part of the evaluation addresses the extent to which mobility-enhancing measures can be implemented in a higher education setting with/without an accompanying approach to a “healthy university”.
Funding period: 2020-2023
Funding provided by: Techniker Krankenkasse, Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsportverband (adh)
This project is integrated into the nationwide adh initiative „Bewegt studieren – studieren bewegt 2.0“.

Since 2014, the research project "Prevention of work-related health hazards and introduction of a university health management system at the University of Bayreuth" has been carried out in cooperation with Techniker Krankenkasse in order to introduce a health management system at the University of Bayreuth. The development of the University of Bayreuth into a health-promoting university will be planned, implemented, and evaluated in coordination with the Healthy University Working Group, founded in 2013. Framework conditions are created and processes are initiated that are designed to have a positive effect on the health and well-being of all employees and students.

Increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior on campus among students
The project is running as a pilot project at two Bavarian universities, the University of Bayreuth (13,000 students) and the University of Regensburg (21,500 students), in 2018 and 2019. The two universities have common features, but also certain differences. One cooperative planning group per university will be introduced, and there will be an information event and other communication measures for a competition inviting ideas to raise student awareness on the topic. Part of the evaluation addresses the extent to which mobility-enhancing measures can be implemented at a higher education institution with/without an accompanying approach to a healthy higher education institution.
